Mr. de Alba is a career diplomat since 1983 and as such has served in various capacities, including the following:
Ambassador of Mexicoin Austria and Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna (since June 2013).
Permanent Representative of Mexico to the United Nations in New York (2011- June 2013); Permanent Representative of Mexico to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva (2004-2009); Alternate Permanent Representative of Mexico to the UN in New York (2002-2004); and, Alternate Permanent Representative of Mexico to the Organization of American States (1994-1998). In addition, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico he served as Special Representative for Climate Change (2009-2011), Director-General for the United Nations System (1998-2001) and Director for Social and Humanitarian Affairs of the UN (1991-1993).
Lastly, he has been Vice-president of the Economic and Social Council of the UN (2002) as well as the first President of the Human Rights Council in Geneva (2006-2007), among others.
Mr. de Alba has several publications and has received different awards during his diplomatic career. He has a degree on International Relations from the Institut des Hautes Études Internationales, in Paris.
He is married and has 3 children.
